In replying to questions raised by opposition MLAs, Sarkar said that during December, 2016 a total of 48 persons committed suicide in Tripura and in the month of January, 2017 the death in suicide stands at 50.

Sarkar, said that during the year 2014 altogether 650 persons including 96 students and 221 women committed suicide.

In the year 2015, the cases of suicide rose to 740 including 79 students and 271 women and in the year 2016 it slightly decreased at 673 deaths in suicide including 68 students and 223 women registered in different police stations across Tripura. The added figures of last three years stand 2063 suicides including those of three farmers.

The assembly statistics shows that during the last three years nearly two persons on average have committed suicide in Tripura.
